Information for Pastors and Students: Understanding the Ministry Practicum: Practical Exercise
All students are required to fulfill a practicum component to complete the Certificate in Practical Ministry.

Description:
The purpose of the practical exercise is to encourage the student to develop an appreciation for ministry and gain valuable practical experience by serving in the local church. Students are required to serve a total of Twelve (12) contact hours as fulfillment of the practicum. The practicum exercise covers three (3) basic areas: Observation, Presentation, and Discipleship. These components allow the student exposure to practical environments that relate to the program being pursued. The practicum once verified by the Pastor or a designated church leader (Supervisor), will earn the student one (1) credit. The ministry practicum does not include ministry independent of a local church. Practicum is conducted in the second trimester of the academic period for the given program emphasis.

Role of the Student:
It is the student’s responsibility to seek a meeting with the pastor/supervisor and together complete the Statement of Agreement.

Role of the Pastor/Supervisor:
The practical exercise is a person-centered experience. It is primarily a relational agreement between the candidate and the pastor/supervisor, who serves as an example, guide and mentor. It is the responsibility of the Pastor or assigned supervisor to give candidates opportunities to observe relevant practices and activities related to the specific scope of course of study. The pastor/supervisor is also required to present feedback of the candidate’s performance, in order to give an accurate progress evaluation.

A DETAILED DOCUMENT OUTLINING THE MINISTRY PRACTICUM WILL BE AVAILABLE ON ACCEPTANCE.
