Emphasis in Biblical Studies is designed to provide participants with beginning skills in the understanding and application of the Bible. Persons pursuing this emphasis will gain a basic knowledge of biblical foundations, which will allow for biblical analysis, interpretation and accuracy.

Emphasis in Christian Education is designed to provide participant with beginning skills to assist with the Christian Education work of the church. Persons pursuing this emphasis will gain an appreciation and basic skills in educating Christians. This will allow for greater effectiveness in the preparation and delivery of Christian material.

1.      Develop skills for teaching Christian material
2.      Gain an appreciation for basic curriculum development
3.      Develop skills in lesson and programme writing
4.      Gain knowledge and appreciation how people learn at different life stages.

Emphasis in Lay Counseling Ministry is designed to provide participant with beginnings skills in helping the church assist those who are in distress. Persons pursuing this emphasis will gain an appreciation and basic skills in helping person in destress, alter ministry and church social/community support. This will allow for greater effectiveness in the preparation and delivery to social support.
            Benefits:
1.   Develop basic knowledge and skills in ministering to individuals and families within and outside the church.
2.   Gain knowledge and appreciation how people develop at different life stages.
3.   Gain an appreciation of the structure and ministry of lay counseling.
4.   Pursue further studies in the given area (Continued development).

Emphasis in Ministry to Youth is designed to provide participant with beginning skills in helping the church minister meet the needs of youth. Persons pursuing this emphasis will gain an appreciation and basic skills in ministering to youth. This will allow for greater effectiveness in the preparation and delivery to youth.

1.      Develop basic knowledge and skills in ministering to youth within and outside the church.
2.      Gain an appreciation of the structure and ministry to youth (Youth Ministries).
3.      Gain knowledge and have an appreciation for the adolescent stage of development.

This will allow for greater effectiveness in the preparation and delivery of the Gospel.

Required Core Courses

BT031 Introduction to the Bible (3.0) The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the content of the Bible from a historical and structural perspective, identifying the periods in which various Biblical books were written and how the individual writings came together into a single book. We will consider the message of each book and try to discover what the Biblical writers were trying to accomplish through their writings.

BT032 Introduction to Theology (3.0) This is an overview of all the major Christian Doctrines.  Special emphasis is placed upon the understanding of foundational concepts and terminology.  The study includes the Doctrine of Scripture (Bibliology), Doctrine of God (Theology), Doctrine of Man (Anthropology) and Doctrine of Angels(Angelology).
  
GS031 Introduction to Leadership (3.0) This course presents the Biblical foundations of leadership. It introduces the student to the theories and practices of leadership guided by Biblical and theoretical principles.

BT033 Old Testament Survey (3.0) This is a survey course covering the entire Old Testament. Special emphasis is placed on tracing the development of redemptive history as it unfolds in this account. These books lay the foundation of God's written revelation of Himself and His purpose for mankind. Emphasis is also placed on the content, character and main theme of each book.

BT034 New Testament Survey (3.0) This is a survey course covering the entire New Testament. Special emphasis is placed on the history, doctrines, ethics, morals and other problems facing the early Church. Emphasis is also placed on the content, character and main theme of each book.

BT035 Bible Study Methods (3.0) This course is a study of Biblical interpretation using tools and methods of disciplined Bible Study. The course emphasizes the exegetical use of the principles in discovering the meaning of a passage of scripture and the application of Biblical truths.

 CE031 Introduction to Christian Education (3.0) This course is a study of the major foundational concepts and issues of Christian education with special emphasis on a Biblical approach to the general concerns of the local church. The course addresses the theoretical foundations undergirding the principles and practices of education in church. It provides the framework for understanding the teaching-learning process

CE032 Developing People (3.0) This course is a study of normal human growth and development from conception through old age. It examines the physical, mental, emotional and social development of the individual throughout their life span. Students will examine concepts, theories and methodology in relation to developmental tasks and processes. The course will help students to understand the factors which influence developmental processes.


CE033 Teaching Principles and Practice (3.0) This course is designed to help participants acquire the essential knowledge, skills and attitudes for conducting effective instruction with emphasis on preparation, delivery and evaluation of instruction. Opportunities are provided for participants to engage in meaningful teaching-learning experiences.

Emphasis in Lay Counselling Ministry


CU031 Basic Counselling Skills for Lay People (3.0) An introduction to the basic role and skills of counselling in the ministry of the church. Emphasis is placed on the principles, techniques and theories of counselling: counsellor characteristics, helping skills and the uniqueness of Christian Counselling. It includes an introduction to general counselling for students anticipating church lay leadership roles.

CU033 Ministry to Family (3.0) This course will survey what the church can do to minister to the family as a unit. Students will explore Biblical foundations of family ministry and will have the opportunity to learn skills related to understanding the social and cultural contexts of families.  It also gives a foundation for designing and carrying out ministry within the family.

Emphasis in Ministry to Youth

YM031 Ministry to Youth (3.0) A study of the nature and needs of youth - early, middle and later adolescence in relation to a Biblical, practical Christian Education program.  Consideration of a basic philosophy of youth work in the local church; objective program planning; organization, administration and supervision, valuation of program methods and resources, qualifications and responsibilities of youth worker, teaching and counselling.  Special focus will be placed on youth problems and the youth culture in order to be able to provide a balanced program to meet the varied needs of youth.

CU032 Counseling Adolescents (3.0) Provides an introductory study of the variety of counselling approaches and techniques used effectively with adolescents.  It focuses on how significant others in the lives of adolescents may be involved in counselling in homes, schools and communities.  It also presents some theories, techniques and strategies for working with adolescents and their families.

Evangelism

MS031 Evangelism (3.0) This course explores the Biblical models of evangelism from the ministry of Jesus and the Early Church.  Contemporary approaches to personal evangelism, friendship evangelism, and crusade evangelism are evaluated and modified accordingly. Participants are required to engage in meaningful evangelistic activities.

MS033 Introduction to World Religion (3.0) This is a survey course covering the histories, beliefs and practices of major Christian and non-Christian religions of the world; such as but not restricted to Catholicism, Protestantism, Christian Science, Naturalism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, New Age Movement, etc. These religions are studied to help students give a knowledgeable witness of their own evangelical doctrines thereby helping to fulfill the Great Commission of the Lord Jesus Christ.

MS032 Sermon Preparation and Delivery (3.0) This course explores the principles of homiletic theory and practice as it relate to preaching from the Old Testament, New Testament, and doctrine. It provides each student with the opportunity for classroom presentations. It includes a study of the technical aspects of the sermon and its preparation.  A survey is done of the various kinds of sermons.

Developmental Sessions

CE021 Writing Skills (2.0) This course provides an introduction to basic reading, writing skills and delivery skills required of the college-level student.  The course emphasizes types of writing and presentation model.  Where necessary, emphasis will also be placed on mastering some of the fundamentals of English including grammar, sentence structure and punctuation.

Practicum

GS011 Practical Exercise (1.0) The purpose of the practical exercise is to encourage the student to develop in ministry and to gain valuable and practical experience by serving in the local church.  Students are required to serve a total of 12 hours.  This service once verified by a pastor/supervisor, will earn the student 1 credit-hours.  Ministry practicum does not include ministry independent of a local church.  Practicum must begin by the third course in the academic period and to be concluded with all reports submitted two months before graduation.
